“Day-After-Birthday” Dive

13 01 2009

Sunday, January 4th, 2009 ~

W00 h00! Birthday dive! At least, the day after! We weren’t able to get out on the 3rd, so we headed up to the quarry on Sunday. We had to take the back road in, as the front gate was still locked. When we arrived, we saw a couple of friends also going for a dip!

The three of us dropped down, and of course, I had the camera with me again. Between Steve and I, we passed it back and forth.

Me in front, Kevin in behind…

Steve, with the reel…

We made our way to the plane, and Steve tied off the reel. Our other friends were already there…

We swam around, took some shots, and watched Kevin play with his yellow line and rock again…

Steve, over the plane…

Steve S on the left, Kevin below…

Kevin…

Steve took this wicked shot…

Going clockwise…Me – with the white tanks, Kevin, Steve S., Rob W….

Me, on the left… Kevin on the right…

Coming back in… Steve and Kevin…

I’m really liking these reflective shots too…

Bottom Time ~ 43 mins.
Max. Depth ~ 38′
Water Temp. ~ 39
Vis. ~ Pretty darn nice…

Steve…

My face loves to pudge up from the cold water… Lol…

We had yet another amazing day in the water, and I got to play with my camera again. I’d say it was a pretty good way to spend the “Day-After-Birthday!”

Happy birthday. Your pictures look absolutely fantastic. What sort of camera and case are you using? What did you do to bring out the cool tones and greys so nicely?

Thank you very much. The camera is a D100, with Aquatica housing, an 8″port, and a 10.5 fisheye lens. I haven’t touched the pictures at all. They are au naturel. Settings were 15 and 5.8, using only ambient light.

Happy Birthday to you! And thank you for sharing what type of camera and housing you used. I was about to ask until I saw it listed in the comments already. I’m a photographer and a diver and I’d love to start combining the two! Take care and thanks for sharing!

Thank you, Anesti. Combining diving and photography has been alot of fun, and quite the learning curve. The next step will have to be strobes, as we don’t always have the ambient light that we do in the quarry! Thanks again! 🙂

Thank you! It is a quarry in Wakefield, Quebec. A great place for winter diving!
